GALAXY’S EDGE: HOW TO BECOME A JEDI MASTER

Walking into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for the first time is a bit of a “pinch me” moment. You aren’t just in another “Theme Park Land”, you are standing on the planet Batuu.

As a parent to children with additional needs, I know that “immersive” can sometimes feel like a code word for “overwhelming.” But with a bit of insider knowledge, Batuu can be the highlight of your trip.

Here is how you can navigate the Black Spire Outpost like a pro.

Build Your Own lightsaber and droid

If you want to see your child’s face light up, literally, Savi’s Workshop is the place. This isn’t just buying a toy; it’s a secretive, guided ceremony where you build a custom Lightsaber. It’s emotional, it’s tucked away from the crowds, and the quality is incredible.

If a lightsaber feels a bit much for the suitcase, head to the Droid Depot. You get to pick parts off a conveyor belt to assemble your own BB-series or R-unit. These little guys interact with the land as you walk around, which provides hours of entertainment for the kids.

Pro Tip: Both of these experiences require advanced reservations. I can help you arrange all of this when the time comes. For example, if you wish, most major airlines flying out of MCO let you carry on a Lightsaber in it’s carry bag, free of charge.

Refuel at Oga’s Cantina

Even a Resistance hero needs a break. Oga’s Cantina is the local “dive bar” of the galaxy. It’s loud, it’s vibrant, and DJ R-3X is always spinning tracks. It’s a great spot to grab a unique drink (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options are available) and soak in the atmosphere.

Just keep in mind, it’s mostly standing room and stays very busy. It’s the perfect spot for a quick 45-minute recharge rather than a long sit-down meal.

Shopping at Black Spire Marketplace

The Black Spire Outpost Marketplace feels like a real bustling bazaar. This is where you’ll find authentic-looking creature plushies, Jedi robes, and, most importantly, Kyber Crystals. If you built a Lightsaber at Savi’s, buying different coloured crystals will actually change the colour and sound of your blade. It’s also where you’ll find the famous Blue and Green milk.

While you’re wandering, keep your eyes peeled. You won’t find scheduled “meet and greets” here. Instead, you’ll see Rey evading The First Order, Kylo Ren patrolling with Stormtroopers or The Mandolorian taking Grogu out for his morning stroll! These organic interactions make the world feel alive and provide those “did you see that?!” moments that stay with your kids forever.

Turn Your Phone Into a Datapad

Before you go, make sure you have the Play Disney Parks App.

Once you enter the land, it transforms into your “Star Wars: Datapad.” You can use it to:

  • Translate alien languages on signs.
  • Hack (or ‘slice’ for you Star Wars fans!) into droids and door panels.
  • Collect Bounties to channel your inner Boba Fett!
  • Tune into hidden transmissions.
  • Scan crates to see what’s inside.

It’s a brilliant way to keep children engaged while waiting for a snack or a ride. It turns the entire land into one big, interactive game.

Planning a trip to a galaxy far, far away shouldn’t feel like a full-time job. Whether you need to know which hotels have the best quiet spaces or how to use Disney’s accessibility services to assist with the physical standby lines, I’m here to help.
